Backstory: I groaned when I read this Nudge, and I almost put it back for my first Pass. This nudge presents at the start of one of the busiest work weeks for me—oh, plus Christmas. Everything on my massive to-do list is a “MUST-DO”, and at a quick glance, everything in there can only be done by me.
Or…?
My intention to practice more Radical Self-Care is behind this Nudge. When I added it to the List, I set the intention that I would be on the lookout for tasks that suck my time and energy, things I overdo or overthink that ultimately aren’t healthy. I’m not going to drop the ball on taking care of my family, meeting all the tight client deadlines, making sure bills get paid on time, and carve out time for exercise and sleep. At this moment, I honestly don’t know what could be eliminated or delegated, but I am accepting this Nudge and trusting something will come to mind.
My elimination things: Food – don’t chop onions, buy them already chopped in the produce cold section; make simple, one pot meals (see Damn Delicious recipes); don’t stress over dinners if no one eats left-overs – make mini versions (I got mini loaf pans at a thrift store and make my husband meat loaf). Shopping – order online and pick-up at the store –OMG, that’s my new favorite thing; shop local and ask the store to gift wrap. Household – just get over it and let the cleaning crew change your sheets; don’t stress on neatly folding clothes, just nicely put them away; once you have kids, you learn to live with clutter, so just accept it as a way of life.
As for delegating a responsibility: I wrote down all my volunteer roles and realized they left no time for me. So I nicely resigned positions and didn’t reapply when terms ended. I kept a few, but letting go is a big weight off my shoulders. I might find new opportunities down the road.
Welcome back Nudges52 – I missed your inspirations!
GREAT ideas, Ann! I especially like the last one. I need to take a closer look at how much I do for other people (maybe even keep a log of hours) and adjust accordingly. Thank you for sharing these! xo
